International Programs
PCDS officially launched its International Programs in the fall of 2005 when the Phoenix Sister Cities Commission opened the door to a student-teacher exchange in China, and a relationship was forged with the Chengdu Experimental Foreign Languages School (CDEFLS). Since then, our successful China program has become and currently remains our signature exchange program with a growing number of students choosing to study the Mandarin language.
Following the program’s inception, PCDS expanded its international exposure, which included a six-year exchange program with the Landfermann School in Duisburg, Germany, a brief exchange with a school in Mexico, community service trips to Guatemala, and summer trips abroad including Spain and Portugal, Eastern Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. Our current global offerings support our curricula with an environmental science/Spanish language immersion trip to to Costa Rica, a summer French language and cultural immersion trip to France, and a summer Rome, Italy, history and culture trip with priority given to our Latin students. The China and Costa Rica trips occur during alternating spring breaks, and summer trips abroad alternate and vary each year.
