10th Grade Parents: Let’s Connect Over Lunch

10th grade parents, let's connect over lunch! Join us Friday, March 3rd at noon, on the front patio of Chelsea’s.  Awesome weather, tasty food, good company, AND it’s close to school!  Look for the Sign-Up Genius email to let us know that you’ll be coming.  This is a PA no-host event.  Hope to see you there.  Any questions, please contact Jo-Ann Barfield or Lydia Rodin.

Please join us for conversation and coffee at The Henry on Wednesday, November 16 at 8am.  This is a no-host event.  Please contact Jo-Ann Barfield (jcoslett@barfield-law.com) or Lydia Rodin (lydiarodin@gmail.com) with any questions.

10th Grade Parent Social - POSTPONED

The PCDS Boys' Soccer team recently qualified for the 2016 AIA boys' soccer state playoffs — which is scheduled for the same time as the parent social this Friday evening — therefore, we will need to postpone our 10th grade parent social until after the first of the year.  We will be having a coffee in November for our 10th grade fall event, and we will instead hold the parent social in January or February 2017.  Be on the look out for a Sign Up Genuis for our upcoming 10th grade events.  Sorry to have to postpone, but the Eagles need us field-side cheering them on!

9th Grade Parent Coffee

We hope you had a wonderful break and were able to relax and enjoy time with your family. Please join us for a no-host parent coffee on Monday, October 24, right after drop off, at The Henry. We look forward to seeing everyone, catching up and meeting all the new parents.

Shin Center Tours

If you haven’t seen the third product of the THRIVE Campaign, the incredible new Shin Center for Art, Science & Innovation, please mark your calendar to come for a quick tour! Regardless of your child’s age, we think you will enjoy seeing what this new academic facility holds. Tours will be offered open-house style, morning dates will include coffee. Look for an email that allows you to sign up via Sign Up Genius for the following dates:
8:00-9:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 18 between 8:00-9:00 a.m.
5:30-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 19 between 5:30-6:30 p.m.
8:00-9:00 a.m. Thursday, October 20 between 8:00-9:00 a.m.

Attendance Procedure Reminder

Parents are required to call the Upper School office (602-381-4523) by 8:00 am to report an absence, lateness, or the need for early departure; a message is to be left if there is no answer. A text message or email message will not be considered appropriate notification. Students may not call in to report their own absences.  Calling in late to the nurse or a faculty member is not acceptable.  The failure to report an absence or tardy will result in an unexcused absence and potential detention or disciplinary action.  It is the responsibility of students and families to arrive to school on time.  Students whose absence is not school related and who do not arrive by the beginning of Block 2 will lose their right to participate in that day’s athletic and extracurricular programs.

Upper School Pick-up and Drop-off

The town of Paradise Valley will no longer allow any afternoon pick-up in the Upper School Drive (in front of the Upper School Administrative Offices). Upper School student drop-off and pick-up will be in the new pool parking lot. Do not park on 40th Street and ask your child to cross. Pick up your child in the Aquatic Center Parking lot.

Visitors to Campus

For the safety of our students, faculty, and staff, we are requiring all visitors to campus, including parents, to sign in and sign out when they arrive and leave campus. Visitors to the Upper School must sign in and sign out at the Upper School office. This is imperative in order to ensure correct accounting of a person's whereabouts on campus in the event of a drill or emergency. All visitors must wear visitor identification throughout their time on campus. While we understand that these steps require additional effort on behalf of our visitors, they are essential to the safety and accountability of our campus community.

Safe Driving Information & Driving Contract

The PCDS Upper School wants to provide families with as much help as possible in our joint effort to keep new, inexperienced student drivers safe. Getting behind the wheel of a car for the first time is a big event in the lives of sixteen-year-olds and often a big worry for parents. Below are two websites that feature a driving contract along with further information on teen driving.

Parking Lot Safety and High School Drivers

Parents and students: Please take a moment to read this article about parking lot safety, including what to do if you are ever in an accident. Very good information to keep in mind.
