Library & Research Services

In addition to the many free resources available on the Internet, PCDS subscribes to a number of web-based data services that provide access to a higher quality of information and services. All of the services, except ArtStor, are available both on- and off-campus. (Off-campus access to these services requires that you are logged in and is only available to currently enrolled students.)  Click the name of the service to access it.

Gale Databases

Gale provides access to wide array of databases, available via Student Resources in Context (Upper), Student Resource Center - Junior (Middle), and Kids InfoBits (Lower).

Maps101.com

Maps101.com is a web-based interactive database of teacher lesson plans, geography tools, online learning games, dynamic interactive map modules and over 4,000 viewable and printable history, thematic, reference, outline, current events and animated maps. Access requires a user name and password that are displayed on this page only if you logged in.

EasyBib.com

EasyBib.com is an online bibliography and citation maker. PCDS subscribes to the premium edition, providing access to MLA, APA, and Chicago/Turabian formats. Users must have accounts to use the service.

AZLibrary

AZLibrary provides Arizona residents access to thousands of online articles and images from popular magazines, scholarly journals, current newspapers and other reference works. Some services will prompt for your home zip code.

Grolier Online

Grolier is a search engine for Encyclopedia Americana, Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia, The New Book of Knowledge, Neuva enciclopedia Cumbre en linea, The New Book of Popular Science, Lands and Peoples, and America the Beautiful. Other services include a variety of dictionaries and an atlas.

JStor

JStor is an archive of nearly 800 scholarly journals.  The service provides high-resolution, scanned images of journal issues and pages as they were originally designed, printed, and illustrated.

ArtStor

ARTstor is a digital library of approximately 550,000 images in the areas of art, architecture, the humanities, and social sciences with a set of tools to view, present, and manage images for research and pedagogical purposes.
Create a student account when you first use ArtStor on the PCDS campus in order to access it at home, as well as at school.

BrainPOP (English)
BrainPOP (Spanish)

BrainPOP, available in either English or Spanish, is a producer of educational animated movies for K-12. The company creates original animated movies to explain concepts in a voice and visual style that is accessible, educational and entertaining for both children and adults. The web site contains animations for science, math, English, health, social studies, and technology ideal for grades K-5, though some animations may be appropriate, as well, for higher grade levels.

BrainPOP is only available during school hours.

TurnItIn

TurnItIn is a service to help students and teachers verify that all sources used in written work have been properly documented and that students' work is original. Instructions for use of the service will be provided by the teachers of those classes making use of it.
