Re-opening of main gate

The students (and teachers) are very excited about the re-opening of the main gate near the lower and middle schools!  We encourage all middle school parents to drop-off their students at that location.  As a reminder, please do not park or drop off your middle school students in the Pre-K/K lot; that entrance is reserved for lower school families.

8th Grade Minitown Retreat

Dear 7th and 8th Grade Parents:

On Friday, February 9th and 10th, your child will have the opportunity to participate in our 4th PCDS Minitown retreat.  It will take place on the PCDS campus and will include an overnight stay in classrooms.  The main goal of Minitown is to give students the opportunity to learn more about themselves and how they relate to, and are connected with, each other. Additional goals are to enhance trust and mutual understanding and respect among individuals, while building citizenship and a sense of personal empowerment. We feel these are important aspects of development during adolescence.  This retreat teaches effective leadership, nurtures a sense of individual self-worth, and promotes cultural awareness and understanding.

During the Minitown retreat, students identify groups they belong to in their communities, including PCDS.  Through the activities and discussions students become aware of the many threads that exist in our community -  and the larger world -  in ways they may not have thought about before. Students will explore how different groups interact with one another and how that can influence social behavior. Through the program, students are able to learn about and celebrate different types of diversity while exploring their own values and beliefs. Students participate in small and large group activities, as well as discussions led by Anytown Arizona staff, trained Upper School Student Leaders, and Faculty and Staff.

Seventh and eighth grade students are eligible to participate in Minitown which starts at2:15 PM on Friday, February 9th and ends at 4:00 PM on Saturday, February 10th. Applications for Minitown are due Monday, January 29th at 3:00 PM. This is a rewarding and beneficial program, and we hope you will encourage your child to attend.  If you have any questions please contact Michele Huskey at Michele.huskey@pcds.org or Julie Larrea at Julie.Larrea@pcds.org.  We are looking forward to a successful Minitown experience.

Best regards,

Michele Huskey and Julie Larrea
